What does it mean to be vigilant? The dictionary defines vigilant as someone who is keenly watchful, alert, and attentive to detect potential danger, trouble, or problems. We are told in 1 Peter that we should stay on alert because the devil prowls around like a lion looking for someone to devour. And let me tell you, he has a taste for those who are unprepared and unguarded and not rooted in their faith. Satan likes to see us stumble and fall and doubt our faith and salvation. Know that is directly from him….he is the king of doubt. Guard your heart and your mind so you do not fall victim to him.
When I raised goats, I knew my goats. I knew their temperaments, and who wanted to be right on you and who would prefer to not be touched. And though I trusted in the fact that I knew my goats and they knew me, I also knew to stay vigilant, alert and aware each time I entered the pasture. I did not want to be caught off guard by a rambunctious 150 pound animal with horns that could get me on the ground quicker than I could blink. And thats not even talking about my 300 pound buck. Sweet as can be, but like most males, was a little ornery when it was breeding season. So you stay vigilant to know be taken off guard by one of them…..because it hurts when their horns make contact haha. The same is with our daily lives. Each day we must guard our selves against the attacks of satan, we must be vigilant……aware of his coming attacks.
How do we do this. We do this by immersing ourselves in Gods word, and binding it to or hearts. Jesus Himself was tempted by satan……..and he used The Word to combat him……so He led us by example on how we ourselves should prepare to battle Satan……by knowing His word, by living His word, by following His example in all things, and by staying ever vigilant.
Is it hard, yes. There are days I just feel like throwing my hands up and say forget it. But it’s in those moments that allow Satan to start to creep in. You have to slam that door shut fast. The raging war in ones mind can be a massive massive battle that others don’t see…….and thats where the enemy strikes the hardest. He whispers, “you are a looser, you are not good enough, you are not pretty enough, no one loves you, you are a burden on others, just give it up now.” All of those are lies he whispers to make you doubt and stumble and stay in a pit of fear and despair. Don’t stay there, don’t allow him to have that foothold. Do what a friend reminded me. Look for the small blessings. It’s not I have to go to work, it’s I get to go to work…..because I am blessed with a job. It’s not I have to get up its I get to get up…..because how many can’t….or worse yet how many didn’t make it through the night. You change your vocabulary and your mind set begins to change. Keep this in mind, and remember…..You ARE enough. Guard your hearts and minds, stay vigilant, and choose joy. Don’t stay in a closet of depression, thats where Satan wants you. Choose joy and choose to put on the full armor of God and choose to be aware of attacks from the enemy.
You got this, we got this together. Go out and smile. And have a great Friday!!❤️
